The Heart Behind Mosquito Jill:
A Legacy of Stewardship
I’m Jill Spohn, and I launched Mosquito Jill LLC in 2025 with a mission that is both simple and urgent: to provide an eco-friendly, budget-friendly, and attractive mosquito solution that respects the delicate balance of our backyards.
A Foundation of Safety
As a mother, grandmother, and Golden Retriever mom (and grandmother to three "grand-dogs"), my priority has always been safety. I wanted a solution I felt 100% confident using in my own yard—where my family and pets play every day. Mosquito Jill is built on that standard. By using Bti-powered larvae traps, we stop mosquitoes at the source before they ever take flight, keeping our outdoor spaces safe for pollinators, birds, and pets alike.
From Volunteer to Founder
My journey into smarter pest control began long before I started this business. My perspective was shaped by years of hands-on conservation work:
Wildlife Advocacy: As a volunteer wildlife transporter for sick, injured, and orphaned animals, I see the direct impact human choices have on our environment. I continue to learn more from the home-based rehabilitators and the wildlife vets on every transport.
Scientific Roots: In 2021, I began documenting mosquito larvae trap methods on the Northern Virginia Bird Alliance (NVBA) website. These methods were reviewed and supported by renowned entomologist Doug Tallamy.
Professional Background: Since 2019, I have served as the Program Assistant for the NVBA Wildlife Sanctuary Program. As a Virginia Master Naturalist, I’ve worked to transform my own yard into a certified sanctuary.
Making a Difference
In 2024, NVBA Wildlife Sanctuary Program volunteers did a deep dive into peer-reviewed research on the impact of traditional chemical fogging. It is shocking to learn the short-term as well as long-term impact these sprays have poisoning our gardens, harming the fireflies, bees, and birds we love.
My hope is that Mosquito Jill will not only help you reclaim your backyard but also support the community. My goal is for this business to become a vehicle for giving back—supporting wildlife rehabilitators and environmental non-profits with a portion of our profits.
